When the King is unable to perform his duties as head of state, for example as a result of foreign visits, Crown Princess Victoria steps in as sovereign.
The Crown Princess participates in state and official visits, the Opening of the Parliamentary Session, celebrating Sweden’s National Day, Nobel festivities and official dinners.
The Crown Princess also conducts her own official duties and visits.
The Crown Princess is especially involved in issues related to crisis and conflict management, aid work and international peacekeeping activities.
In January 2016, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has appointed The Crown Princess as a member of the Sustainable Development Goals Advocates for Agenda 2030. Between 2016-2018, The Crown Princess was one of 17 ambassadors in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Advocacy Group with the task to promote the UN's Sustainable Development Goals – Agenda 2030 – in various ways.
The Crown Princess is now part of the SDG Advocate Alumni and continue to work actively, primarily with issues concerning water and health, goal 6 and 14.
The Crown Princess is highly involved in issues concerning children and young people. The Crown Princess and Prince Daniel established a foundation to mark the occasion of their marriage in 2010. The Crown Princess Couple’s foundation aims to support children and young people in Sweden, with the purpose of combating exclusion and promoting good health.
Crown Princess Victoria's Fund was founded in 1997 and endeavours to make it possible for children and young people with disabilities and/or chronic illnesses to be active in their leisure time. The foundation is administered by Radiohjälpen.
