There will be pomp and ceremony at this concert by Lithuania's Canto Fiorito in collaboration with singers from Stockholm's Ensemble Villancico. The music would have been heard at court of the powerful House of Vasa in Vilnius, where Gustav Vasa's grandson had one of Europe's most impressive chapels in the early 17th century, with strong influences from Rome and Venice.

Under the artistic direction of Rodrigo Calveyra, Vilnius-based Canto Fiorito has quickly become Lithuania's most dynamic and internationally recognised ensembles performing a historical repertoire. Sweden's Ensemble Villancico was established by Peter Pontvik, and is now regarded as one of the world's most important interpreters of early Nordic and Latin American music.

This production is a partnership between Stockholm Early Music Festival/EARLY MUSIC SWEDEN, the Lithuanian Culture Institute and Gripsholm Castle.
